FAQ

  • How do I know if my tank needs cleaning?

If you are not sure when your tank was last cleaned, it most likely is in dire need of a clean. Beware that it is usually very difficult to tell how bad the tank is by simply looking into the tank from the access hatch.

When you notice a change or deterioration in your water quality then your water tank most likely needs a clean. -If your water starts to smell, taste funny or if it is discoloured this is a good indication that things have got out of hand in your water tank. This can quickly escalate to upset tummies, especially for visitors.

There is a very good reason why the Ministry of Health recommends regularly inspecting and cleaning out your water tanks!

  • But my tank looks ok?

It can be very difficult to tell the true condition of your tank when looking down the access hatch. It's a bit like expecting good results when trying to do your makeup, but looking in a mirror that is 2m underwater in a dark room. -It’s pretty hard to tell what is going on.

A tank can look remarkably clean on initial inspection looking down the hatch. However, on closer inspection there are some pretty gross things going on underneath.

Moral of the story: Get your water tanks cleaned by the professionals, they are worse than they look.

  • How long does it take?

A full clean including removing, filtering, sanitizing your water, cleaning the inside of the tank, then returning your sparkling clean water into your now sparkling clean tank can be completed within a day for two tanks on the site.

A repair of a concrete water tank takes 4-5 days as the 2 part cement sealer needs to cure. Alternative water supply can be plumbed in if needed for the duraton. Note that a full clean is included as part of the repair process.

A plastic tank repair also includes a full clean and can be completed in one day.

  • What does it cost?

A full clean cost is comparable to a bulk water delivery cost, with the benefit that most of your water can be saved and cleaned as well!

A repair cost is comparable to buying a plastic tank liner. However a tank liner then needs the tank to be emptied, cleaned, the liner installed and plumbing adapted, then more water supplied. Where as professional repair by Tank Goodness includes cleaning, sanitizing and retaining your water as well as cleaning and repairing your tank!

Multiple tank and neighbour referral discounts available.

  • What do you sanitise the water with?

I recommend Geosil, a Swiss patented product made under license in Hawkes Bay by Clark Products.

    Leaves NO chlorine aftertaste!

    This is more effective than chlorine (bleach) and does not require flushing after use or taint the water. It has extensive approvals and more information is available at;

  • I have filters and UV, do I still need to clean my tank?

    In a word, Yes.

The point of filters and UV treatment is to make sure the water you are drinking is the best quality, and to keep it at the best quality some maintenance is needed changing filters, UV lamps and cleaning UV tubes.

You probably wouldn’t expect to suck water out of a swamp and have the filters deal with all the gunge before you drink it? It makes sense to start with the best possible water supply, and just as the filters and UV systems, keep that supply maintained clean and in the best condition.

  • How do you save the water?

The water is pumped out of the tank, through high flow filters that filter the water down to 5 microns, then stored in my potable water bladder while I work on your tank. The water is sanitized to drinking water standard and then returned to your tank once I have fully cleaned and repaired it.

  • How much water can you save?

My potable water bladder can hold up to 20,000L. For sites with multiple tanks even more water can usually be saved.

  • My tank is leaking badly, can it be fixed?

If your tank is in bad shape, call me for an assessment and quote. If I can save a tank like this, the chances are I can fix your tank too.
